A priest of Puri Shreemandir announced on Sunday that he is developing a luxurious resort with an investment of ₹200 crore, focusing on spirituality in this sacred city. Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata, the priest stated that the beachfront project would be purely vegetarian and alcohol-free, aiming to provide a "satvik" experience to pilgrims and travelers seeking spiritual peace along with modern amenities.
Sevayat Daitapati Bhabani Das said, "Puri is not just a destination. It is a sacred abode where divinity meets the ocean. This resort will offer a blend of spiritual serenity and luxurious hospitality." He mentioned that the construction cost of the 'Jagannatham' project is ₹110 crore, excluding the land cost.
The project, under Meridian Mist Hotels & Resorts, is being developed on a seven-acre beachfront plot along the Puri-Konark Marine Drive, approximately 8 km from the Jagannath Temple in Puri. "The land belongs to me, and there is no conflict of interest with the Jagannath Temple," Das clarified.
Expected to open within 14-16 months before the 2026 Rath Yatra, the resort aims to redefine spiritual tourism in Puri, attracting both pilgrims and high-end travelers. Das and his family have 100% ownership of the resort but are open to reducing their stake based on the response to the project's membership program. The membership is priced at ₹3.5 lakh, ₹5 lakh, and ₹7 lakh, offering members a stay of three nights per month for five years.
